Thanks for all of your great ideas. Animals would be excellent, but I think
maintenance would become overwhelming pretty quickly. It was my impression
that the city was looking for something that would paint Portland as
sustainable and could be easily explained with a couple signs. I realize
that is kinda boring, but it is hard to sell anything complicated to city
officials. Food systems would be great - but do you think all the pollution
would be a problem? What about coppicing willow for weaving (maybe even
biofuel?)? I also get the impression that this project will need to cost
around the same amount as the typical ivy/st.johnswort mass plantings cost,
which unfortunately rules out any earth moving plans.
