A 500 year old temple between Daocheng and Shangri La valley.
30% of the original survives (rest was destroyed in 1966-76) http://www.pbase.com/matt_in_sha/tt

Why would anyone destroy something as beautiful and historically significant
as this?
I guess the chinese intended to turn something "historically significant"
into something "currently insignificant". They can never destroy an
institution
as important as Tibetan culture and Tibetan Buddhism. The modern-day chinese
will certainly
earn their place in world history - among the most infamous, senselessly
brutal,
characterized by unbridled greed and ultimately culturally insignificant.
