How to look at a goat
As a novice goatkeeper you may not see the point in showing or even owning
purebred goats, but whenever you put a buck and doe together in the same
pen, you are influencing the comfort, health and longevity of future
generations of animals.
How to care for your goats
There will be handouts including: issues of Ruminations, gestation tables,
and a goat medicine cabinet
The workshop will be held on the Costells' land in the Sand Hills of Red
Rock, and will include hands-on demonstrations with their twenty Nigerian
Dwarf goats. Bring a sack lunch (the Costells will provide water, iced tea
and plenty of ice.) To register, call Maureen Costell at 830-839-4466 or
email HYPERLINK "mailto:maureen@maureencostell.com"
maureen@maureencostell.com. The cost is $25. Space is limited.. Children are
welcome and may attend for free.
The workshop will be led by Kathleen Claps, who lived in Red Rock for 20
years. Kathleen co-organized the first Nigerian Dwarf shows in the US, bred
the first Nigerian Dwarf Master Champion and the first Master Champion doe.
Kathleen was licensed as a judge by the American Goat Society. Her Goodwood
goats earned more than 28 Master Championships, set milk production records
and provide a foundation for many top US and Canadian herds. In 1995
Kathleen was recognized by the American Nigerian Dwarf Dairy Association for
her contribution to the ND breed. She also started Ruminations, The Nigerian
Dwarf Journal.
