I'm so busy that I don't know if I already did this or not, so if I did,
forgive my repetition. I learned about Permaculture in the first Whole
Earth Catalog in maybe 1971 or 72. In 2001, I attended Earth Activist
Training with Starhawk and Penny Livingston in a recycled prison camp in
Cazaderro, CA, where I got my design certificate. At the time I was in
BA year at New College of California North Bay in Santa Rosa. I got a
BA in Culture, Ecology, and Sustainable Community with emphasis on
Environmental Art and Education. Then I got a MA and MFA in Writing and
Consciousness from New College of California in San Francisco. A novel
is at work on me. I'm a sixth-generation Texan, so I moved from Sonoma
County, CA in August to Austin. I'm interested in Urban Permaculture
but don't know how it works after Peak Oil and possibly the demise of
the pollinators. I get really outraged when I get it that the biotech
thugs are at war with biodiversity, our hope for a sustainable future,
in my opinion. In my inquiry into Colony Collapse Disorder, I've
stumbled upon Horizontal Gene Flow, where GMO genes cross species
barriers. A Bt gene, for example, migrates into the bacteria in a bee's
gut, and that bee has a depressed immune system. It's like it has
AIDS. I'm super outraged at this, and I'm at work on getting a
Pollinator Protection Act taken up and passed into law by Congress to
stop this nonsense while there still might be time. I'm encouraged to
hear on this listserv that the 95% figure for the disappearance of feral
pollinators may have been overstated. I overstate myself a lot, too, so
I know how that goes. So I was glad to find this listserv. What led me
to it was a post about Colony Collapse Disorder. I welcome any and all
help with the PPA. Thanks.
