What color is the water.
red clay in one
red clay + murky brown in the other two
this will settle out as silt drops to the bottom and the duckweed in one will
partially clear it
How does it smell?
Haven't checked but probably not putrescent/anaerobic
What is its pH?
haven't measured that
normally low but since I have added much mineral amendment + lime and
calcium, I would guess
6.5-7
Is it sandy bottom like your fields?
red silt loam + quarry dust aggregate (some finer than the silt loam), no sand
the ponds were excavated to hard ground and little loose material was left in
them
Is their a leaf drop into the pond each season?
a lot of pine needles in the largest and less pine needles in the other two
When does it have ice on it?
partial icing only for brief periods when it gets very cold, 20 degrees and
below
