EMINENT DOMAIN- take a look at some of the properties designated
blighted on the Castle Coalition web site.
To date Connecticut has done nothing to stop the use of eminent domain
to take private property for private profit. There is a simple term for
this, it is called THEFT. It is bad enough when you are a victim of
theft by a stranger. Imagine if the accomplices to this theft were your
fellow townspeople and your local government who were looking for
personal financial gain from your loss. When the Development Agency of
the City of New London tried to take Susette Kelo's charming little
house with its priceless view they offered her little over $123,000.
If you have property with any special features and are not a
multi-millionaire, you are at risk of someone else wanting your property
and state laws that can help them take it. Connecticut should ban the
use of Eminent Domain for private profit. If you do nothing else, at
least join the Castle Coalition. It doesn't cost anything to join and
one day it could save your property.
For all of you in other parts of the country keep track of where your
state stands on this issue.
