George Pyle, Raising Less Corn, More Hell
2005, Public Affairs, ISBN 1-58648-115-0, $25.00
I found out about this book through Utne, and just finished reading it.
Even though it does not contain the word "permaculture," the ethic
permeates its 200 pages. Pyle delivers an informative, fascinating
farmers'-eye-view account of US agricultural policy within the larger
context of economic globalization, the energy crisis, global warming,
water pollution, the US obesity epidemic, genetically modified foods
and terrorism. He enriches his account with links to slavery,
communism, the Dust Bowl, Star Trek and Nobel economist Amartya Sen
This is a worthy addition to anyone's permaculture library.
