For about six months, I have been experimenting
with wood ash as a caustic barrier between our
small lawn and planting beds, sprinkling a strip
approximately 1/2" deep by 2" to 3" wide.
I have many island beds planted with a variety of
edible plants.....such as-strawberries along the
borderĀ yarrow.. variegated black
elderberry-blueberries, etc plus annual crops)
I've seen no negative effects on any of the
plantings.
The 'lawn' is a mixture of Ranuculous (creeping
buttercup) ajuga, weeds and general grass seed.
What I have discovered is very little grows
within the ash strip-if any of the lawns'
contents crawl into the this zone-their roots are
very shallow and the plants easy to pull.
Hi, I have a good bit of fireplace ash from an indoor wood burning
fireplace and am wondering if this is a useful resource for fertilizing
or composting. Can anyone advise?
