Subject: [permaculture] Global Food Supply Near the Breaking Point

I am a simple-minded person. Life is easier that way. I do believe that
the Peak Oil theory has some of relationship to energy conservation and
efficiency. I don't believe there is an oil shortage. I believe the near
surface cheap oil is about gone, the oilfields of the world are
declining in output, the new fields discovered are not as big as once
were and worldwide oil demand is not being met by worldwide daily
production. There will always be oil in the ground, perhaps 30 - 60,000
or more feet down but it will be heavy crude and expensive to explore,
produce and refine. The world, all its advances and population, for the
past 150 years has been built upon the top of a hydrocarbon. Restrict
the supply of that and what will replace it? R & D can make headway but
it needs to hurry up yesterday. Yes, they will come up with all kinds
of things, hopefully some that could be for widespread use. I'm all for
off-grid and I'd like to see more of it. I wish my town would let me
put up a wind turbine. "Green Architecture" is coming into play and
looks catchey. Green roofs are here and there and should be used more.
Edey's greenhouse is an interesting concept. Compostable toilets, too.
I wonder how long it will take an average John Doe to catch on and adapt
to a newer way of life?
Gosh, I've run out of things.
