  • Subject: [permaculture] greywater and rain water system costs
  • Date: Tue, 04 Apr 2006 22:13:32 +0200

I am currently considering installing a grey water as well as rain water systems in my backyard. Here in Israel which is relatively a pretty dry place water runs for private homes at about 1-4$ a cubic meter depending on amount used.

Using my best calculations I will be able to save about 50 cubic meters from rain water from the winter and about 10 cubic meters a month - (120 a year).

If I purchase this amount of water from the water company it will cost me annually at most (4*160=640$). However installation of such systems as I have currently priced them will run me some 3 thousand dollars since I physically can not due such installation myself.

The bottom line is that such an approach will takesome 5 years for me to recoup my costs. which strikes me as quite a long time

Any thoughts from anybody out there who faced similar dillemmas

Thanx
