They're a bit pricey, but Masonry stoves are designed to burn one intense fire a day and hold the heat. I have heard, though, that you must make sure that you are getting a well designed and put together stove. I know of a guy that spent a good deal of money on his and was disappointed because of the contractor that he used. I believe they work best in smallish dwellings. Check out this link for more info.
