One additional problem with cement is that using it requires large
quantities of good quality (potable) fresh water, which then chemically
and permanently becomes part of the set-up cement. Since cement is one of
the most commonly used substances in the world, it means that a large
amount of fresh water (billions of gallons) is forever withdrawn from
Gaia's hydrologic cycle.
