I find it interesting that dock root is rich in iron. (the only herbal iron
tonic we found when my vegetarian wife was pregnant and anemic was a German
one made from Rumex root) because the root can grow into dense anerobic soil
with pockets where the bacteria makes little "rusty" deposits. (what's the
chemical process happening there?)
A while back in an article in Pc Mag the author (talking about gardening)
made the observation that "mulch makes dock"; certainly does!
I find that a first cutting of the flowering tops is an easy and rich
compost additive.
