The North Carolina General Assembly is presently considering a bill that would significantly lower the number of signatures required for
third party ballot access. Presently the North Carolina Green Party need to get 60,000 registered voters to sign a petition asking for the
formation of a new party. After this bill is passed that amount would change to 15,000 signatures.
The North Carolina General Assembly must vote on the Bill before May 1st or it is effectively dead in the water. If you live in North
Carolina please email, call, or fax your State Representatives. To find out who represents you click here:
Please write your own letter, or use the format of the one below:

In addition, we are now asking you to contact the two co-speakers, Jim Black and Richard Morgan. Tell them not only to support H867, but
urge them to make sure it comes to a vote immediately.
Contact Speaker Black at 919-733-3451, or Jimb@ncleg.net, or by fax at 919-715-0772. Speaker Morgan may be reached by calling 919-715-3010
or writing to Richardm@ncleg.net.
Under the rules of the House, the co-speakers alternate days. Today (Tuesday)
is Speaker Morgan's day.
When talking with Republicans, such as Speaker Morgan, you could remind them
of the Platform of the Republican Party of NC, which reads in part:
"We support the rights of referendum, recall and initiative whether in reference to statutes or changes to our state constitution. Current
ballot-access laws in North Carolina are meant to limit debate. These laws must be eased to ensure greater citizen participation and
influence. The Republican Party is not afraid of the people's voice."
When speaking with Democrats, such as Speaker Black, remind them of this
section of the Preamble of their state party platform:
"This party shall provide an avenue for the free and open _expression of diverse ideas and opinions, and shall work to promote government
which is responsive to the legitimate needs, interests, and aspirations of every man, woman, and child in a manner which does not abrogate
or usurp human dignity or those fundamental rights, which are the birthright of all people of a free and democratic nation."
