I was intrigued to come upon, in an incredible ancient stand of cedars, a mountain beaver colony (Aplodontia, a shy and delicious rodent) in a thicket of Stinking Currant (Ribes extrafunkia;) and Devil's Club (Oplopanax horridum, likewise aromatic and spiny) and coppiced vine maple (a semi-crawling Acer- a favorite food plant) Looked like they'd be hard to find in that warren!
