Subject: [permaculture] Tree legumes
Hello all,
I am interested to know your opinions on tree and plant legumes in terms of
when they release N.
Let's say that there is a symbiotic relationship between the rhizobium and
and the particular plant so that nodes on the roots are filled with N. If
one uses the "chop & drop" method on a tree legume that has N filled nodes
on the rootnet, does a proportional amount of rootnet disconnect from the
tree thereby releasing the N for other plants to use following the "chop"?
Or is N only stored in the part of the tree that is "dropped" which then
releases the N through the N cycle and decomposition?
What about the situation for such plants as lucerne (alfalfa)?
