| Hi Percy list! I am extending the deadline for Percy paper submissions at SAMLA, this November 9-11, 2023 to Sunday, August 6, 2023 (this Sunday). We already have four great papers to present, but I just wanted to give others a chance to join us if you’re interested. This year’s conference will be IN-PERSON (!) for the first time in three years, so it should be a great time for all! If you have a paper idea that you can develop into a 10-page, double-spaced paper to present by November 9, send an abstract (a title and paragraph) to me (kareyperkins AT gmail.com and kperkin1 AT scsu.edu) by this Sunday, August 6, so I can include you in the SAMLA Walker Percy sessions for the 2023 year. Topics are open; anything related to Percy’s fiction or non-fiction will work! Ideas related to the conference theme (In)Security (see https://samla.memberclicks.net) are also welcome. As a reminder, here is the Call for Papers;

As many of you may already know, the annual SAMLA (South Atlantic Modern Language Association) conference is coming up this November 9-11, 2023, in Atlanta, GA. Barring a new pandemic, another hurricane, or some other unforeseen catastrophe that has beleaguered us lately, it looks like we will be meeting IN-PERSON for the first time in three years! I especially enjoy the in-person experience, being able to chat with those who know and love Percy as I do—hopefully this year that will happen. We always have a strong Walker Percy presence at SAMLA (whether remote or in-person), and we hope to have that once again! Just a reminder: Here again is the Percy CFP; topics are open and flexible as long as they are related to either Percy’s fiction or philosophy, but if you do have a topic related to the conference theme (more info on that here: https://samla.memberclicks.net/), please submit it! 300-word abstracts are due by August 6 to kareyperkins AT gmail.com and kperkin1 AT scsu.edu.
