Tomorrow on The
Connection, books that changed my life series is featuring WP MG. This might be
a repeat of the previous one.
"If you're a big enough fool to climb a
tree and like a cat refuse to come down, then someone who loves you has to make
as big a fool of himself to rescue you."
W Percy From: percy-l-bounces AT lists.ibiblio.org [mailto:percy-l-bounces AT lists.ibiblio.org] On Behalf Of RHONDA MCDONNELL Sent: Wednesday, August 03, 2005 1:41 AM To: Percy-L: Literary and Philosophical Discussion Subject: Re: [percy-l] Some Thoughts on The Moviegoer I wouldn't say that I'm more knowledgeable, but, just based on MG, it seems
like Percy consider the cult of celebrity to be an inauthentic referent--in
other words, as long as Binx is beseeching Bill Holden and Rory Calhoun for
answers, he's living in bad faith. Notice that in the epilogue, after he's made
that leap to the religious, there's no need for talk of movies and movie stars
any longer. Rather than the movies certifying his existence, he's able to
certify his own being as well as Kate's.
Just my two cents.
Sure is good to hear a little chatter!
