I recall seeing a fairly scientific write-up where the authors used PVC
pipe with notches cut out of it for callusing bench grafts - I believe it
was in one of the NNGA annual reports.
John Brittain heats his bench grafted pecans at 80 degrees to callus them -
if I recall correctly he uses old freezers for this purpose. There was a
write-up in the NNGA 77th annual report describing his process for pecans
that I have the text of - email me if you can't find it online.
Woop! First line of John's article is: "The basic technique for bench
grafting nut trees has been described by Leslie Wilmoth in the 64th and
68th Annual Report of NNGA" so those are the NNGA reports/articles you'll
want copies of :)
