Al, I had a horrible problem with fireblight this winter, and I never had
such a problem until this year. I painted over all the big winter cuts once
I saw the problem in midwinter. I did my main pruning in spring and did not
paint over those cuts but have also not had problems with it - so far I have
no fireblight this spring.
If you want to paint over every cut get some of that spray paint sealer, its
fast to hit every cut with it with a little blip of a spray.
I admit I don't really understand whats going on since there is no standard
guideline I have heard about painting over cuts to prevent fireblight. My
thinking now is there were some warm streaks of rainy weather in late fall /
early winter that caused an unusual outbreak of fireblight.
