Click and drag your mouse over the part you need to comment on ( to
highlight it) and then hit reply and write YOUR messgae.

Thunderbird and Gmail work this way, perfectly, every time.
Simply highlight the text/portion of the message you want to include
as quoted or nonquoted, as the case may be, material in your reply, click Copy or type Control-C, THEN click the Reply button and said text will be automatically inserted in your new message to the list. No need to highlight and delete unwanted material auto-quoted by default in your reply. You can also set the options in your email client not to include any quoted text in your replies.
