Dear Alexis,
Can you send me a small chapter about silverberry for Fruitipedia? It will
be a very good contribution as through your article people outside America
will also come to know about this fruit.
Please do not hesitate or feel shy. You do not have to be a scholar or
professor to write something about fruits. It should contain just basic
information (which you already possess) about this fruit preferably in
Fruitipedia format. I shall make style amendments if needed. Please also
write your full name, address and contact address, name of your website if
you have one. Please also send your photograph. I shall put this
information at the end of chapter.
I hope you will surely do it and spread the knowledge about lesser known
fruits among others.
With best regards,
Very truly yours,

Subject: [nafex] E. Pungens Edibility
My experience with E. Pungens is from my sister's patch in GA. She has
dozens of plants. The fruit is quite edible, tasty, similar to other
illeagnus in that it can be astringent, but looses that astringency when
fully ripe. The weakness of Pungens (apart from invansiveness) is that
they set fruit sparsely, perhaps unreliably (?) as you go further north.
It seems like my sister's bushes are fairly reliable, but she is zone
8B, very warm. My experience with E. Pungens is that the flavor is
similar to autumn olive or goumi, but perhaps a bit less tart when fully
ripe. Autumn olives are especially heavy fruiters (and VERY invasive),
goumis set pretty heavily as well. I have never seen Pungens set as
heavily as other illeagnus, but I do not have a lot of experience with
it either.
