Seems like this might be something where NAFEX/ NAFEX members could work with
Geneva and/or one of the Oregon programs in applying for funds to help
protect/analyze this unique collection. Perhaps serving to help organize and
advocate for such a collaborative project would make it more likely to obtain
funding for obtaining samples and preserving them, and ideally propagating
them in a reference orchard, if the original can't be protected. Undoubtedly
there are errors in the labeling, it would be expected with that number of
cultivars, but as a future resource of both germplasm and DNA for lineage
studies.
