Sounds like an issue I've had with musk strawberries, which are not
self-fruitful. Sometimes they look like they're going to make berries, but
it just falls off before starting to get some size. They always make way
more flowers than berries. But some years, and now that I have a couple
varieties, I get a decent amount of berries. But nothing like regular
strawberries.
