My son had an early unfortunate experience with a Red Delicious Apple at the
babysitter's. For years after he declined all red apples saying that they
made him puke. He still does not eat Red Delicious (he is now 21) but that
is a more informed decision now.

Agreed! I seriously doubt that I could get many folks here at work to try
one again.
We had an 'end of the year' class party after we completed our freshman year
in veterinary school, replete with multiple kegs of beer and bushels of raw
oysters.
At least a dozen of us(students and instructors alike) contracted vibriosis,
and while no one ended up in the hospital, none could venture far from a
toilet for several days.
Nearly 30 years ago, and I still can't/won't eat raw oysters.
