Knowing your limestone rich valley, rabbit eyes must
not be so fussy. It also speaks to the fact that blueberries can handle more
calcium and a higher ph as long as there other mineral needs are met. That being
said, I know you must add sulfur or other amendments.

Mark, Hector has to add sulfur every year. All the limestone
that's washed down into his bottomland makes for a much more balanced soil
than what's up on the acidic Highland Rim overhead. Everything grows much
better down there, but apart from the blueberries there's a fairly bad frost
pocket effect. And the air circulation is nil, the sun doesn't dry things
quickly because it comes over the ridge so late in the day. There's no way
to win in the fruit game. Donna |
