The Latin name of Chokecherry is a subject of contention. Many
NAFEXers, et.al., believe it to be Prunus virginiana whereas Britton &
Brown, the authors of botanical keys widely recognized by colleges and
universities recognize P. virginia as the American Wild (or Red) Plum.
Further, the plant we call "Chokecherry," is given the name Padus nana by
Britton and Brown and Padus virginiana is Wild Black Cherry.
