I will also guess; 1. When a piece of live green tissue hits a really hot pipe, the contacting plant part becomes damaged on one side, and loses it's water. At this point it is probably a semi-insulator, and the other side of that stem may continue to survive. 2. Shade is a big part. If you had a 6 foot high black iron fence, the lower half covered by foliage, this will also cool the part that is in direct sunlight. Remove the foliage, the top half will heat up. Probably a lot! 3. Maybe the fluid in the plants moves faster and can carry some of the heat away? Colonoscopy drugs haven't worn off yet....! Murph |
