There are two varieties of Highbush Cranberry (Viburnum trilobum) out there. One is so bitter that no amount of sugar can make it palatable and the other become pleasant tasting after it is frozen once of oftener although some folks enjoy them before they freeze. Unfortunately, the bitter variety is being marketed as a landscape plant whose taste fives the whole species a bad name. Visually, there are no characteristics that separate the two.
