| Lee and everybody, Thanks for the responses. Lee, I remember reading your book about the color of the mulberry fruit being variable within the individual species. The confusion, which I think is very common and see on this list, is the use of "white mulberry" as a synonym for M. alba, "red mulberry" as a synonym for M. rubra and "black mulberry" as a "synonym for M. nigra. You see that very confusion in the respoinses just posted on this list. Becasue the fruit colors vary, this is not the best way to talk about a type of mulberry species. Better to use species names and remember that fruit color does not define species. It is no always clear from the context of the text or discussion when the generic terms are used whether one is describing the fruit characteristic or the species itself. This list seeks the truth about the fruits we grow. Let's please be clear about what we are talking about. And, for what its worth, I think white mulberries, while bland, to be OK.
