I have had a "Chocolate" Hawthorne for about 25+ years in our yeard.
Yes it is hardy. I got it from Bearverlodge Nursery along with a Amur maple
and a cascade weeping willow also very haqrdy. The Hawethorne is some years
just loaded with fruit, some years a lot less....it seems to behave like a
apple tree as to fruiting some years and not on others. I have used berries
with my jellies, grape, crab, currant. The juice from the berries is
supposed to be somekind of heart tonic so I was always leary about using to
much hawthorne berries in my jelly mixtures. I did not ever just make
hawthorm jelly for that reason which it may not have the effect as jelly.
But I did enjoy the jellies that were made with them.
