I used to give my bees a chunk of fat every winter.
They gobbled it up.
Perhaps the failure of new beekeepers to do so has made bees more vulnerable to mites.
Misting frames containing capped brood cells with undiluted canola oil would trigger the adult bees housekeeping response and they would clean it up (including any that entered uncapped brood and egg cells). Such a treatment might selectively kill the mites without damaging bee eggs and larvae.
