I think that if a nonastringent Kaki loses leaves to deer, that only
verifies Lon's notion that the astringency in persimmon fruit is also in the
leaves. This implies that one could screen persimmon seedlings for
astringency by tasting leaves. Or you could bring in a goat... the trees it
ate were the ones you wanted to keep. Donna
