Sandra, I primarily consulted with the classic text "The Cherries of New York" which has lengthy descriptions of nearly all of them; it is available online if you don't have a copy. Since I have no personal experience with any of them it is hard for me to recommend any variety, but based on what I could find out I ordered Black Eagle, Waterloo, Kirtlands Mary, and Early Purple. If I were to order only one it would have been Black Eagle.
