I don’t mow, I use my hand clippers
and individually cut out all stems (down to about 2 inches). I also mulched
heavily 4+ inches with wood chips 3 years ago and top off with another 1 or so
inches each year. I’ve only got about 30 square feet of raspberries (but
I treat my blackberries and currants the same way, without the harsh pruning). I haven’t disturbed the soil in that
area for almost 10 years and I get almost no weeds (other than raspberry plants
that need to be given away). I have mostly Heritage with maybe one other
variety in there, though I didn’t keep them separated and don’t
know if the other variety ever did anything (it was 5 Heritage and 1 whose name
started with an L). I had Fall Gold in with my pawpaws, but
they’ve gotten pretty shaded out in the past 2 years. I’ve got to
see if anymore come up this next year and move them (though I am running out of
space quickly…lol) I planted Wyeberries 2 years ago (along
with thornless boisenberries) but they aren’t in the greatest place
(space issue again) and I don’t recall getting berries off of the
Wyeberry (the Boisenberry is not really distinct enough from the blackberry
flavorwise imho, though maybe if it got more sun, who knows…. J Zone 6b Michigan From:
