I don't care much for insipid apples...can't stand Red Delicious, not fond of Golden Delicious. Apples I've had include Fuji (sweet/bland), Braeburn (good, but will it do well in Ohio? getting some from a local orchard to try next week), Cameo (pretty, but not very tasty), Pink Lady (bland), Rome (sometimes very good, most times not), Winesap (love the flavor, texture can be mealy), Granny Smith (fine for cooking, but don't need a treeful), Gala (okay), Honeycrisp (great texture, good mild flavor...will it do well this far south?), Jonathan (good flavor), Jonagold (a little mealy at times, decent flavor if a little sweet). Wish we had tastings around here...but our local orchards tend to offer only the familiar.
I didn't get to taste my Queen Cox this year as the raccoons got them all (I assume raccoons as we had bagged all the apples and found the ziplock bags UNZIPPED). Told my DH that if they couldn't finish an apple one night, they rezipped the bag to save it for latter LOL.
