Ed--I'm growning Asian plums in Maryland along the Chesapeake Bay. It's very humid here during the summer and we have considerable insect and disease pressure. I find that Ferbam at pink bud and petal fall, followed by Captan at approximately weekly intervals until about 3 weeks before harvest, controls brown rot reasonably well. Plum curculios are extremely difficult to control, however. I find that regular and heavy spraying with Imidan gives about 70-75% control; any other product gives virtually 0% control. As I understand it, Imidan has now been delabled for home usage, and is getting hard to find (fortunately, I laid in a supply last year). What is your opinion on the Damson-type plums? Are they worth trying in Kentucky? And have you tried Seneca? When do the European plums bloom in relation to, let's say, a Redhaven peach? Thanks--Eddie Earles -----Original Message----- |
