Donna,
One of the things we do to get earlier corn growing is to germinate it
before planting. We put it in some moist vermiculite in a container in a
warm location (greenhouse) and when the seeds have roots about a half to one
inch long then we plant them. That way they don't rot in the soil because
it is too cold. You can plant a week or two earlier that way. Of
course you have to be careful not to break the roots when you plant them
outside.
