protect it? Something so the rope would slide on that and not directly

I have used scrap 2x4 pieces parallel to the branch. This works if the
rope is going to be taut. I have also made a 2x4 sandwich but you have
to kind of watch it to make sure it doesn't get too tight. And then
the rabbits came so I never did succeed entirely.
