The berry quality varies. I chose the two vines with the best berries
on my property and pulled all the rest out. I keep the two pruned and
staked. They ripen late in summer and early fall.
For early berries, Cascade berries are delicious. They have the
flavour of wild trailing blackberries. I suspect they are only hardy
on the coast, though.
Controlling Himalayan blackberries is a lot easier than controlling
some of the cultivated berries, like loganberries and boysenberries
that I planted and then changed my mind about. They have been coming
up for more than 25 years even though I cut them off several times a
year.
