I used pH paper to determine the acidity of a bale of peat labeled as
sphagnum peat. The pH of the damp peat was 5. Somewhere, I have
packed away a good electronic pH meter which I will use to measure
the pH of the peat when I find it. The cheap pH meters with metal
rods hanging don't really work. I believe 5 is around the correct
pH. The pH paper I have only measures whole numbers.
