When asked how many tap-holes should be drilled in any one tree, one
needs to look at History. The American Method is one tap-hole in a 10" tree
and another for each 5" in diameter thereafter.
You should use this method if your great grandfather, your grandfather,
your dad and you tapped the tree(s) AND your children, your children's
children, etc. will also tap. When using the American Method, there will
always be a spot to drill a new hole.
If you are the first to tap the tree, the Quebec method of one tap-hole
per 6" diameter at breast height is perfectly fine.
