Well, of the 12 cherries I picked from the young trees, I can tell you they
were very tasty, and tart, but not astringent. They were almost semi-sweet. I
waited while they hung on the tree under a net. Red like a Fire Engine. I would
eat them right off the tree, but some folks might not. The only other 'tart'
cherry I had was Prunus Bessyi (Hansens). They were very small, wicked
clingstone, and astringent, but made the best pie I ever had. Too bad they all
got 'the crud' (X - virus?) and went nasty on me right after bloom the last
couple of years while the plums & peaches were fine. I yanked them. Plantron
Crap they were.
