By the way, I did brave the elements a few days ago and cut a few twigs
from the Sunrise apple. I picked one from a vertical sprout that I
would probably choose for scion wood. The other was a small diameter
twig that appeared to be from a late season growth spurt. Neither
sample had the brow cambium layer I encountered last spring. They were
not really green inside, more whitish, but definitely not brown. Steve Steve wrote:
