Mark,
The peach blossoms don't need cross-pollination, but something has to
scramble around in the blossom to move the pollen from the anthers to
the stigma.
In my area the male Blue Orchard Bees do a great job while they are
waiting for the females to emerge.

I thought peaches had perfect flowers. Doesn't that
mean the flowers have both male and female parts and pollinate themselves?
Can anyone clarify?
