They are here and happily killing for pleasure which is their bent. My
uncle had over fifty rare exotic pheasants before a mink got into the house
where they were kept and pampered.
Killed every one of them in one night. Mink hair has split ends I found out
when examining the corpses.
Weasels and ferrets which are in the same family are known for killing more
than they eat.
I had a ferret I used as a ratter. She would stack the rats she killed in a
pile and then would eat a full meal of dog food afterward. She would not
eat the brains of rats which has been claimed by some "experts".
A neighbor recently lost all his laying hens to a weasel in one night.
Foxes will usually only take what they can eat. Feral cats usually only
kill chicks and eat them on the spot until they are have satisfied their
hunger. Hawks and crows only take one at a time. Dogs kill all the
chickens and only take one or two. Red Wolves and coyotes will sometimes
act like foxes and sometimes will act like dogs. Red Wolves are protected
and I imagine they are killed because they are difficult to distinguish from
coyotes by anyone except a person familiar with them. Oh yes Virginia, there
are Red Wolves down here in Southeast.
