This afternoon I received a message from Iowa State University horticultural specialist Eldon Everhart, who is hoping that persons on the NAFEX discussion list would share some information about their Aronia melanocarpa (black chokeberry) plantings.
Please e-mail the information about your planting to Dr. Everhart <everhart@iastate.edu>.
I suggest the following info:
Your name:
Your city and state:
Your e-mail address:
Cultivars planted and no. of plants of each:
Seedlings planted and no. of plants:
Comments:
For example:
Name: Sam Brungardt
City & state: St. Paul, Minn.
E-mail address: sam739is@hotmail.com
Cultivars planted and no. of plants of each: Viking (1), Nero (1)
Seedlings planted: none
Comments: Plants were planted in spring 2002 in very fertile clay loam. They began to fruit the next year and have never failed to produce a crop even when Saskatoon blueberries in the same yard failed to fruit because of spring frosts. They are now about 4-1/2 ft. tall.
