Subject: [NAFEX] Pear search: Winter
Lawrence = Winter Nelis?
On Nov. 30, Joe Boles asked:
Does anyone have any information or know of a pear called "Winter Lawrence".
Joe, did you ever find info on "Winter Lawrence"? While
researching heritage turkeys, we noticed certain local names to be
phonetically similar, but the spellings barely recognizable. The
Corvallis GRIN database for European Pears (Pyrus) lists "Winter Nelis"
and "Winter Cole", but no "Winter Lawrence". Perhaps Nelis has
been transmogrified into Lawrence?
Lon Rombough and others have grown "Winter Nelis", so they
may be able to furnish info on whether "Nelis" and "Lawrence" are one in
the same, if you have a Lawrence description.
