Thanks for mentioning wineberries (Rubus phoenicolasius) as a shade tolerant choice.
Last Sunday at a church dinner, one family brought a fruit salad with thawed wineberries. I was amazed how well their color and texture survived the freeze/thaw cycle; they did not bleed into the colorless liquid nor stain the banana slices. Definitely different from any other raspberry or blackberry we've thawed for fresh use before.
