If you have ever seen natural grafts, where roots or shoots intertwined and grew together, it's less of a stretch to figure how someone might have seen that and tried artificial grafting.

amazes me is how anyone EVER figured it out! It doesn't take much observation &
logic to learn that some cuttings root easily, but deciding to try grafting is a
